In the annals of the history of the cherokee people .. there r many things of relationships ... among them is CORN .. called Selu in the tongue of the Cherokee Tsalagi ... and how CORN got tobe ...
In the ancient story ... when the world was a different color ... there was one man upon the earth called Kanati ... and Kanati wanted and needed a mate ... as all other things had ... the oppisite of ones self .. the other half .. the mirror reflection ... the other one .... soulmate to put it pluntly ....
For as in the MIRROR .... is all things of soul and spirit of the one and many .. so also Doublehead means MIRROR ...
In a time long ago ... one man .. sought to the heavens a mate of the other of himself ... and became lonely of all things ... for he sought the thing to not be lonely ... something to be of him ... a woman ... and he prayed and raised his shouts ... and screamed his needs and wants to the many above ... until one day ...
A woman appeared to him out of nowhere .. the most beautiful woman he had ever seen .... so beautifull .. in all things .. beauty of physical .. spiritual ... body ... soul ... and more ... of all her ways .... but the woman would not let him come near her for her essence was not made fully whole ....
Kanati tried many times when seeing her ... to go to her .. reaching out to her .. trying even to grasp her to touch her .. but everytime .. she moved away so he could not .. and she spoke to him many many times on many many things of wonder ... then one day ... she said to him ...
Man .. Kanati ... if u desire me so ... if u need me so ... if u want me so ... your prayers and your steadfast being has been counciled and granted by the heavens above ... if u so want this of me ... woman ... u must do something ...
Kanati ... excited over this prayer granted to him .. he asked her what should he do .. what is it that he must do to have her .... and she said ...
U must rub sticks and flint together ... make fire ... and burn the woods and the fields that is before u ..... and he did so ... and the fields and woods became blazing burning .. and hot from heat ... and smoke rose to the heavens ... as in prayers of all things ... for smoke carried his heart as well ... his step of doing such a thing ... and the heavens knew this ....
Kanati tried to reach for her after this was done .. but she again turned back from him so he could not touch her ... and she said to him ... it is not finished yet .. u must continue ... and she said to him .. now u must wait until the fields and the woods cool and become not so hot ... and he did so .. and she appeared to him again and said ...
Now u must take me by the hair of the head .... and drag me thru all the ashes that is before u of the fires ... and drag me thru them and not leave none not draged upon ... and he did so ...
And when he done this thing .. the woman became real .. and she walked upon earth ... and was apart of Kanati .... for she was his other half now ... a mirror of him ... and they became one together forever .... for Selu is this woman ...
To this day ... the CORN stalk in its growing produces a tassle at the top .. a YELLOW tassle .... and some cherokee names in history r taken from this thing the tassle .. as Corn Tassle .. Corn Stalk .. ect ...
And the tassle at the top is a flower of the corn ... a blossom of corn ... a corn blossom ... full of beauty of the corn ... for it is woman ... for this woman that appeared to Kanati had BLONDE hair ... a cherokee with BLONDE hair ...
A so to this day ... the yellow of the corn tassle on top of corn .. is the hair of the first woman ... SELU ... for CORN is SELU ... woman ....
